Digital marketing utilizes the Internet to promote any product through a multitude of digital devices namely, mobile-phones, computers etc.
So, how is this done?
1. Social Media Marketing
Social media platforms like Facebook can be used to target a particular demography of people to promote products. Let’s say, you sell clothing that are worn only by people from a certain country in Africa. Using certain techniques, you can now use social media campaigns to target only people that come from that country. This way you don’t waste your money targeting the wrong audience and the people who are not interested in your product aren’t bombarded with your ads. It’s a win-win situation for both.
2. Paid and unpaid Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
SEO allows to position your website at the top or in the first page of search engines. This results in more traffic to your site. More traffic means more sales. SEO can be done in two different ways. One is paid and another is organic.
Google and other search engines are always looking for good quality products and content for their customers. So, organically you can rank at the top of search engines by creating unique and excellent content or products. Simply speaking, if you are better than your rivals, you will be placed before them in search engine results. The more people that like your site and what it is about, the better ranking you will receive.
But, if you have a good product to sell and can’t be bothered creating great content, you can still place your site on the first page of google any other search engine by paying for the top-spot. You can sign up for something called PPC (Paid Per Click). Depending on how competitive your sector is that you are trying to rank for, you just pay a certain amount of money to the search engines every time somebody clicks through to come to your site. The more competition in your sector the more money you will have to pay for every click, and the more money you pay the search engines the better chance you have of ranking at the top. PPC along with social media marketing is probably the best ways to rank on search engines.
Of course, there are many more strategies you can adopt. For example,
3. Influencer Marketing
To use this strategy, you will have to find someone with a lot of influence or followers in social media and pay them to promote your product. For example, if you are trying to sell a t-shirt, you can ask this person with a lot of followers to wear your t-shirt and post a picture on their social media. This will create instant exposure to all their followers resulting in more sales.
Depending on your product and your budget, you could easily adapt on or more of these strategies to promote your product through one or more of these digital mediums to generate more leads and sales.
